Girl: It’s not that I’m being fake. I just need to protect my hair, you know, in the winters. It gets cold up here, and we all know black people weren’t meant to live in the cold. My hair would get so dried out, and start breaking. I have to wear one.


Interviewer: Well, what about scarves, or other protective styles that don’t involve a weave?


Girl: ...I donno. Honestly, I’ve only ever worn weaves. My mom started taking me to get my hair done when I was really little, and I haven’t really worn my hair out before, so I wouldn’t know how to anymore. I’d look so different...
