Guidelines for Subsections
-
Each subsection must correspond to the three different “areas of examination” described in your introduction and be written in the order in which they are presented there.
-
Subsections should not be dumping grounds for information, but should be actively and aggressively arguing for a dimension of your larger thesis.
-
Be clear what you want to argue throughout the subsection and what research you will cite to support your claims.
-
Create a Paragraph by Paragraph outline for each subsection before you start writing.
-
Be certain to use the layered/“big mac” method consistently throughout your paragraphs whereby you (1) make a claim, (2) provide citable evidence to substantiate that claim, and (3) analysis and explain how this evidence supports your argument.
-
Each subsection should be a minimum of two full pages with external research present in every paragraph.
